Macbeth kills Duncan to make sure that he follows his fate, while the two brothers leave the country to escape their fate. In contrary to how Macbeth approaches fate, Malcolm and Donalbain want to change their fate, not accomplish it. Instead, he insists that grieve will come later, possibly in the form of revenge for their father. Malcolm also mentions that they shouldn’t even express grieve for their father as it puts their life in risk. Both believe that it is their fate to die if they stay, therefore they alter their proposed fate by leaving. Little do they know that this takes Macbeth closer to the throne and power, realizing the prophecy. In this aside to Malcolm, Donalbain expresses his fear of staying and proposes to leave. Hid in an auger-hole, may rush and seize us? They believe that they are also a target for the murderer. Shortly after Malcolm and Donalbain discover that their father has died they decide to flee the country to guarantee their safety, each to a different location. Therefore, it can be said that they don’t believe that fate makes things happen and it is necessary to take matter into their own hands. In his, and Lady Macbeth’s eyes, this is the only way to guarantee their fate, to become king and queen.
